Founded in 1961, Averill House was named after a former Bishop of New Zealand who was closely associated with the College for many years.

King’s College opened in 1896. Then situated in Remuera, it was founded with the aim of providing “the best all-round education it is possible to obtain”.  

This goal was drawn from a quote by the original Headmaster Mr Graham Bruce and remains a foundational value.

Our outdoor education programming instills into students a sense of adventure, an appreciation for our environment, and lifelong leadership skills.  

King’s offers an array of opportunities for students to get out and enjoy the beauty of our whenua.

Our mentoring program helps to ensure that each student has what they need to succeed, thrive, and feel comfortable during their time at King’s College. Every student is allocated an adult mentor.

The House system ensures that every King’s student has a place to belong. For both boarding and day students, Houses provide a supportive network that is a key part of our pastoral care kaupapa.

King’s College is rooted in Anglican traditions and faith. The beautiful Memorial Chapel is the spiritual centre of the school, where students and the community gather.

Marion Bruce House shield

Marion Bruce House was established in 2020, in response to increasing numbers of day girls attending the school. It was named after Mrs Marion Bruce, sister-in-law of the founder of King’s College, Mr Graham Bruce.

Founded in 1959, Major takes its place with confidence in every endeavour of the College. While there has been change in the House over the years, the same ideals from its founding days prevail.
