Pastoral Care at King's College

We believe that students are best equipped for success when they feel safe, comfortable, and happy in their school environment. Our pastoral care systems are designed to ensure nobody falls through the cracks.

The core pastoral team comprises the chaplaincy team, House staff, our mentors, the Health Centre, and the counselling service, alongside key senior staff who have oversight of the care of all our students.

“Character development happens when we support our rangatahi to become the best possible versions of themselves. From their first day at King’s our students join a House where they are part of a supportive network that fosters friendship and encourages them to explore their interests and passions.”

-Simon Lamb, Headmaster

Our Houses

The House system is the basis of pastoral care for both boarding and day students. House masters, mentors, and other staff advise, help, and encourage students in all aspects of their schooling, co-curriculars, and wellbeing. The Houses themselves act as homes away from home, creating a safe and familiar environment as well as nurturing lifelong friendships and connections.

Everything from healthy eating to physical activity to mental health is overseen by House staff. The support and networks that the Houses provide endure even beyond school years.

Our Houses

Mentoring

Each student is assigned an adult mentor within the House system. This trusted person provides comprehensive support as they navigate life within the bustle of King’s College.

Health Centre

Te Puna Whaiora, our Health Centre, is located on campus and offers a 24-hour, 7-day a week service for boarding students and the care of day students during College hours.

Counselling

King's is a community where much care and attention is given to student wellbeing.  We have a dedicated team of Counsellors on hand.
