Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education at King's

Our outdoor education programming instills into students a sense of adventure, an appreciation for our environment, and lifelong leadership skills.

King’s offers an array of opportunities for students to get out and enjoy the beauty of our whenua. Challenging ourselves in the outdoors helps to build confidence, self-awareness, self-reliance, teamwork, and resilience—crucial foundations for personal growth.

We are all better than we know. If only we can come to discover this, we may never again settle for anything less.

Year 10 Adventure Challenge

The Adventure Challenge programme for our Year 10s aims to unlock potential in students through discovery in the wild. Taking place over 18 days, it is a journey of challenge and self-discovery.

Year 10 Adventure Challenge

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Scheme is an internationally recognised qualification which provides myriad self-development opportunities for King’s students.

Year 10 students are automatically entered for Bronze level, and are given the opportunity to complete all four strands of the award through the normal school acitivities. Silver and Gold awards are optional and there is a small fee for these. Students starting at King’s College in Years 11 and 12 can have all their previous award activities transferred to the College.

Year 12 Leadership Programme

Leadership is central to the King’s educational philosophy, and development activities culminate in our Year 12 Leadership Programme. This prepares our students to take on the task of leading the College as seniors.

Taking place at the school’s Ahuroa Outdoor Education site, the programme sets challenging tasks to nurture cooperation, leadership, problem-solving, and more.
