King’s Latin Scholar Publishes Textbook

Friday 8 November 2024

Year 13 King’s Latin scholar David Li (Peart) has incredibly written and published his own textbook this year. David noticed that there was a gap in the market for a textbook aimed at younger children, especially those in the eastern community. He wanted not only to express his own love for the language and culture of ancient Rome, but also to reach these younger students, so he created a picture storybook. The book guides students with text and beautiful illustrations by Daz Yi, to take their first steps in learning Latin.

The book called Marcus’s Family is currently available on Amazon in both Kindle and hardcover versions. David Li is one of our more distinguished Latin students in recent years, with outstanding results in IGCSE and in the prestigious US Advanced Placement Latin programme, as well as successive gold medals in the international competition – the National Latin Examination – so this is another achievement for him to celebrate.

About David

David enjoys playing and listening to early 20th-century classical music, especially that of Alexander Scriabin and Nikolai Medtner. He is always in pursuit of an emotionally and logically grand and ideal realisation of music. He has also keenly explored the field of linguistics, especially phonetics and phonology, given that the subject documents the way languages function and in certain cases how the human brain operates when dealing with language. He is also intrigued by the logical thinking behind mathematics, the Latin language and the fascinating history of ancient Rome. Participating in sports like golf and tennis is also a big part of his life: the competition, excitement, and being able to stay active is very satisfying for him. He greatly values communities: he likes to be one of the key members in his communities and contribute to the group while building relationships with others. Learning is also important to him, as well as being a kind person who respects, helps and sympathises with others.
