We’re incredibly proud of 12oz, one of our Year 12 Business Studies enterprises, for their exceptional achievements at this year’s Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) Awards. This impressive team - comprised of students Arki Hunter (Year 12, Middlemore), Ethan Mathewson (Year 12, Parnell), Charlie Burn (Year 12, School), Amy Somervaille (Year 12, Middlemore), and Eden Weck (Year 12, Taylor), alongside their teacher, Tracey Wyllie - has developed a meaningful and innovative approach to raising awareness about drug and alcohol abuse in Aotearoa.
The team’s venture, 12oz, combines technology with social purpose by creating an AI-driven app that educates users on the effects and dangers of substance abuse. Their initiative also includes a line of ethically produced, 100% NZ-made cotton t-shirts, which they hope will help start conversations on these important issues.
At the YES Auckland Regional Awards, 12oz received the Excellence in Social Enterprise award, recognising their commitment to positive social impact through responsible business practices. Adding to their achievements, Arki Hunter was awarded the prestigious Deloitte Individual of the Year, celebrating his exceptional dedication and contributions to the project.
The team also received exciting news of a National Excellence Award nomination, with more details to be revealed at the YES National Finals in December.
Congratulations to the 12oz team for their hard work and impactful achievements. We are excited to see what’s next as they continue to inspire change.
