Spurred on by the excellent support from the crowd and vocal encouragement from the considerable boarding community, two goals from Scott Illerbrun (Year 13, School) gave the Boys Hockey First XI an emphatic 2–0 victory over St Kentigern College last week at Lloyd Elsmore Park in Pakuranga to win the Auckland Super City Championship for the first time since 2014!
For the team, it was the ultimate performance when it mattered, putting in an outstanding and dominating effort on the night, not allowing their opposition a shot on target or a penalty corner in the whole game. Captain Tom Migounoff (Year 13, St John’s) received the trophy on behalf of the team and the team was greatly touched by the rousing haka given to them after the game by the supporters. It summed up what King’s is all about.
