Dance and Drama

At King's we are proud to have a thriving dance and drama departments delivering strong curricular and co-curricular options.   

We have performance events and workshops throughout the year, with highlights including the annual Dance Showcase . This event allows our dance students to showcase their talents and is a real high point for so many of our pupils. 

 

Dance and Drama Opportunities

The many opportunities for King's students to perform include: 

  • Junior Production

    The Junior production is cast with students in Years 9, 10 and 11, who gain roles by auditioning. The show takes place at the end of Term Three and allows young acting talent to emerge. Auditions are held at the end of Term Two. Rehearsals are held Mondays and Fridays after school as well as Sundays for the duration of Term Three.

  • Senior Production

    Each year at the end of Term Two, King’s puts on a quality drama production with actors from Years 11, 12 and 13. Roles are gained through audition and a limited number of places are available. Auditions are held at the end of Term One. Rehearsals are held Mondays and Fridays after school as well as Sundays for the duration of Term Two.

  • Production Support

    The backstage crew oversee the logistics of each show and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Stage managers, lighting operators, sound operators, and more are required.


    The costuming team helps to source, create, and manage the costumes involved in all the three major productions. 


    The make-up crew looks after all the make-up requirements of the major productions. Training is often offered.

  • Boys Dance

    A group dedicated to inspiring young men to participate in dance. Male guest teachers to help expand their skills and experience. 

  • Hip Hop

    An auditioned performance group dedicated to making dance works for comps and shared at our annual showcase and other community performances.

  • Technique Group

    An auditioned performance group dedicated to making works shown at comps and annual showcase. 

  • Jazz Performance Group

    A lunchtime group dedicated to making performance piece shown at comps and our annual showcase. 

     

  • Dance Showcase

    Each year co-curricular and curricular groups work together to create an original dance show. Students have the opportunity to showcase learned works and self-cheorgraphed works.
