Cultural Activities

Kapa haka, productions, and much more—King’s College offers students a diverse range of opportunities to immerse themselves in cultural activities as part of our arts programming.

We believe that challenging ourselves is how we grow. For those with an interest in the arts, these groups, programmes, and competitions present opportunities for developing confidence, competence, and discipline.

  • Debating

King’s competes in the Auckland Schools Debating competition. Auditions are held early in Term One for positions in the five grades; Junior Open, Premier Junior, Senior Open, Advanced Open and Premier Advanced. This competition runs in the evenings, fortnightly for Terms One to Three. Practices are held during Friday lunchtimes and other times by arrangement with your coach.

  • Kapa Haka

The kapa haka group competes in Division One at Polyfest and at important occasions throughout the year. Kapa haka trains during Term One. It is a full-on commitment, with practices nearly every lunch time and after school as well as Sundays. It is not possible to be in both Glee Club and kapa haka, as rehearsal times clash.

  • Writing Club

A club for all writers! As well as hosting frequent meetings and visits from writers, the group puts out a regular publication called The Echo.
