‘Matariki Heri Kai’ Whakapiri mai, Whakatata mai ra! Nau mai ki te pō Matariki o King's College 2024.

Join us on Wednesday 26 June in the Great Hall as we celebrate Matariki 2024!

This years theme for Matariki is ‘Matariki Heri Kai’, which originates from the Māori proverb ‘Matariki whetū Heri Kai’ meaning ‘Matariki - the bringer of food’.

‘Matariki Heri Kai’ speaks to association between the appearance of Matariki and the bounty of the impending season so as the theme for Matariki this year focuses on food - the stars we will mainly acknowledge this year are Tupuānuku, Tupuārangi, Waitī and Waitā.

Tupuānuku represents the foods produced from the land, Tupuārangi represents produce from the forests, Waitī represents fresh water fish and Waitā represents produce from the ocean.
