Read on to learn how our King's rowers performed at Maadi Regatta from 18 to 23 March, 2024.

A very successful Maadi Regatta campaign, earning three silver and one gold, has meant that King's have had their best rowing season since 2017!

Girls U16 single sculls: Silver

Ione Eadie (Year 12, Middlemore) began the successful wave of medals by securing a silver in the girl's U16 single sculls, our first of the regatta. Ione's road to the A final began after finishing 1st in heat 2 and the semi-final, only to finish less than 4 seconds behind the gold medal winner in the final with a time of 8min 27.85sec. Ione has had an incredibly triumphant season, winning the North Island Champs and now 2nd in New Zealand. These impressive results cement her as one of the best single scull rowers in her age group nationwide.

Boys U16 coxed four: Silver

Our U16 coxed four, consisting of Charlie Field (Year 11, St John's), Josh Haskell (Year 11, Greenbank), Elijah Nakhle (Year 11, Peart), Jack Reid (Year 11, School) and Ayden Miller (Year 11, School) secured an impressive 2nd place in their category. After placing 2nd in their heat behind the eventual gold medal winners, they proceeded to the repechage to win comfortably ahead of the historically distinguished rowing school, Hamilton Boys High School, to claim their place in the A Final. They raced with urgency and determination in the final to be pipped by St Andrews College by a narrow 3 seconds to place 2nd with a time of 6min 46.65sec.

Boys U16 coxed eight: Silver

Charlie Field, Jack Reid, Marcus MacLeod (Year 11, Selwyn), Josh Haskell, Elijah Nakhle, Sammy Taylor (Year 11, Major), Oscar Innes (Year 11, Averill), Oliver Poppelwell (Year 11, Parnell) and Ayden Miller raced well throughout their campaign to finish 2nd, taking home King's third and final silver medal. In the heats early in the week, they finished 3rd, which meant they had to place top 3 in the repechage to book their spot in the A final. The boys showed grit and passion and finished 1st, meaning they earned their opportunity to race for a podium position. In the A final, they pulled off their fastest time of 6min 12.92sec to claim silver behind Christs College.

 Boys U15 coxed four: Gold

In our last A final of the Maadi Regatta, the boys of Jack Reid, Joseph Richwhite (Year 11, St John's), Finn Thompson (Year 10, Marsden), Jake Peacocke (Year 10, Selwyn) and Charlie Lewis (Year 11, Parnell) were relentless, only requiring two races to win them their gold medal. In heat 3, they dominated the other crews to win by an impressive 11 seconds. This booked them a place in the A final. In a very close final, King's resisted the pressures of Saint Bedes College and Hamilton Boys High School to win and become the U15 coxed four national champions with a time of 7min 05.08sec!
