King's College - 40/10 17.5 overs

St Kentigern - 41/5 19.2 overs

When St Kentigern College were reduced to 20/3 in the 10th over, King’s were rueing their earlier batting collapse as the target of 40 runs posed no realistic threat. If King’s had grafted another 30 runs in their innings, things might have been quite different. This was the impact the bowling of Tim Hamilton (Year 13, Marsden) and Aekkam Sarao (Year 11, Parnell) and the whole fielding unit had brought into the second innings in the hope of a victory.

The miracle was far-fetched as King’s could not compete with the bat in the morning session and hung on till the first drinks, losing nine wickets. They set a low target of 41 for victory.

St Kentigern College were met with a determined King’s outfit. The boys were hurting but felt that they could rectify their earlier innings and make the visitors fight for victory. Led by Morgan Tapper (Year 13, St John’s), they came out with huge determination. Hamilton and Sarao bowled with skill and guile, and although this was a convincing defeat, if King’s continued with this attitude in the field, they will win many matches in this competition.

This match serves as a testament to the character and determination of the King’s cricket team. While the result may not have been in their favour, their unwavering resolve and positive attitude promise victories to come in the competition.
